"A New World" Makes History!!!

BACKPACKING TENOR
MAKES MUSICAL HISTORY

Will Martin, a 24-year-old tenor living in London, has become the youngest tenor in musical history to top the classical charts. His debut album ‘A New World’ soared to the No.1 spot today (Sunday Sept 28th).

Throughout the week Will has been outselling his nearest rival Bryn Terfel by 2-1. The No.3 spot currently taken by the world famous Three Tenors - Pavarotti, Carreras and Domingo - was outsold by 30-1 by, what would be considered in tenor terms, a mere boy.

!!!CONGRATULATIONS, WILL!!!

Australian Associated Press: "Martin wants to be our classical star"

Martin wants to be our classical star
27 June 2008
(c) 2008 Australian Associated Press Pty Ltd. All Rights Reserved

SYDNEY, June 27 AAP - Young New Zealand singer Will Martin is on a mission to bring classical music to Australia's youth.

On a promotional tour in Australia this week, Martin says he's surprised that Australia doesn't have a modern classical star - and has nominated himself to be it.

"I was surprised about how different musical tastes are between here and Australia," Martin told AAP today.

"You haven't got a Hayley Westenra or a classical crossover person, so there's a possibility of getting in there and having a bit of fun."

The 23-year-old has recently released his debut album A New World, a modern mix of classical music featuring the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra.

Martin, who's described as a bit of a Michael Buble, says he thinks he can get youth to finally embrace the genre.

"The word classical can have a stigma of being boring for younger people, but it doesn't necessarily have to be that way," he said.

"I think the fact that I'm younger, it does help me to say `have a listen'."

Will Offers Support to Hospital

Monday, 11 February 2008
By REBECCA GARDINER
• Howick and Pakuranga Times

KIWI crooner Will Martin was singing from a different song sheet at Manukau’s Kidz First Hospital last week.

The 23-year-old classical music celebrity sang along with young patients during a SingStar competition at the hospital on Thursday.

Mr Martin took part in the karaoke-style game for more than an hour, singing pop music hits that delighted his young audience.

South Auckland Health Foundation (SAHF) public relations officer Michelle Kidd says the singer made an impression on the children from the start.

“The event was very special,” says Ms Kidd. “He just had a real way with the kids and an empathy with them.”

At one stage the hospital playroom was “chocka”, with patients, their families and staff jammed in to get a good look.

“He didn’t win any of the competitions. He signed a hundred autographs and was just natural. He’s really busy, but he just said, ‘What can I do to help?’”.

Kidz First Hospital is the recipient charity for this year’s SkyCity Starlight Symphony.
“It’s such a worthy cause,” says Mr Martin, who is set to perform at the event. “I’m sure every concertgoer will get behind the event and bring along a gold coin for Kidz First.”

SAHF executive director Pam Tregonning says all donations collected at the concert will help pay for paediatric equipment at Middlemore Hospital’s new Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

“Around 80 children from all over New Zealand are admitted to Middlemore’s intensive care unit every year,” says Ms Tregonning.

“Every dollar raised will help Kidz First get the ICU space and equipment they need for children and their families.”

Up to 200,000 people are expected to fill the Auckland Domain for the SkyCity Starlight Symphony concert on February 23.

Event organisers have put together six special packages for auction on TradeMe, including pamper packs, accommodation deals and picnic hampers.

Proceeds go to Kidz First Hospital. To make a bid, go to http://www.trademe.co.nz/kidzfirst.

Welcome to Will's World!

Welcome to Will Martin's World!

Will Martin is New Zealand's new singing sensation. He performs a variety of music, but is particularly focussed on redefining Classical Crossover.
His new album A New World went Platinum on the New Zealand music charts, and is still flying off the shelves around the country. This album includes many of New Zealand's favorites such as the traditional Hine e Hine and an extraordinary rendition of Annie Lennox's Into the West from Howard Shore's score of The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King.

Will Martin is every bit a New Zealander. Many of his songs are themed with home, as he expressed his deepest passion for his homeland of New Zealand. He has also worked with some of New Zealand's biggest stars including Hayley Westenra in the 50th Anniversary of West Side Story and the Rugby World Cup album The World in Union. Will has also worked along side All Angels and will be sining with Kiri Te Kanawa in February.

Will, I dedicate this blog to you, and thank you kindly for granting me permission to do what I love: promoting those who are an inpiration to me.
